Baragora, Purulia, West-Bengal

The tribes of the Santhal minority live in Baragora, a small village near Purulia in the west of West Bengal. Like many minorities, the Santhal also experience discrimination and disadvantage. In 2020, AGAMEE founded a coaching class in the village to give the children and young people career prospects. In this way, the children and young people receive the support they need to avoid ending up in the slums of the big cities.

Gobardanga, West-Bengal

The school in Gobardanga, north-east of Kolkata, was founded in 1994 and is one of the oldest AGAPE schools. All AGAPE schools in India are run independently by the Indian project partner AGAMEE. Here in Gobardanga, it is mainly children of pre-school age from poor families who are supported. They also receive a warm lunch at the school.  In 2024, the building, which is in need of renovation, is to be renovated and modernized with funds from AGAPE so that courses for young people, such as English, sewing and computer courses, can also be offered in the rooms outside of school hours in the future.

Chandanpur, West-Bengal

Just like everywhere else in the world, children from poorer regions and households have significantly fewer opportunities and prospects. The school in Chandanpur had been in existence since 19xx and, despite the small, simple building, gave hundreds of pupils the prospect of a fair education. Unfortunately, the school had to be closed in 2020 due to coronavirus and severe storm damage. There are plans to reopen a new school in Chandanpur.

Goaljani, Bangladesch

The school in Goljani is one of AGAPE's oldest projects in Bangladesh. It is therefore all the more pleasing that the school is still in operation and that many children from Goljani and the surrounding villages receive a basic education in reading, writing and arithmetic there. They can then attend state schools. The school has been independently financed by AGAPE Bangladesh for years.

Schools in Nepal

In 2022 and 2023, we supported the Tibetan pupils in Year 1 at the school near Ghiling in the Upper Mustang Valley in Nepal through sponsorships.  This school is run by the Patta e.V. association and the Nepalese non-governmental organization Maitri-Ratna. It enables the children to stay with their families and not have to be accommodated in a boarding school far away in Pokhara. We visited the school in 2022 to see the quality for ourselves and although the rooms could not yet be heated at that time, the children received warm meals and excellent lessons.
